Many of you, I am sure, will have seen this young man and his recent video about his own body image. He is a 22 year old man from Brooklyn USA who lost 270lbs in weight and has been left with a large amount of excess skin. I found his video very inspiring for one so young and felt that I would like to share this here with you.
So many of us male and female have issues about how we look and how we fit into what is perceived to be normal. What is normal for one is not for another and this striving for perceived perfection irritates me beyond belief!
I have one big ass and there is no getting away from that! Whether I am slimmer or, as I am now, carrying too much weight, my bum is way bigger in porportion to the rest of me. For many many years I wanted what was not possible that nice slim bum that other “more desirable” girls had.
Now though as I am about enter into my 50’s (that birthday is now only days away) I have a shift in my thought processes, in fact this shift has been happening over the last couple of years, what we cannot change we have to embrace, be it the size of a bum, saggy bits, wobbly tums, drooping boobs, the menopause (in the case of men the manopause, yes apparently it is supposed to exist, something else I may well look further into), being tall or short, fat or thin we can, all of us, men and women, find something about ourselves that we don’t like, we may not like it but unless we can come to some sort of acceptance and peace then we will end up worrying about it or trying to change it forever.
As I gain in age and experience I find that I do not want to waste my energy worrying about these things, I will accept what I cannot change and live life to the full. We only have one chance at this life and I for one want to enjoy every bit of it including all the wobbly, droopy, wrinkly bits!
Thank you Matt Diaz for inspiring me to write this piece and sharing your love and passion for body positivity.
